Fast start propels Tecumseh girls past Chelsea

CHELSEA – The Tecumseh Indian girls basketball team continued their red-hot style of play Tuesday night, racing past the Chelsea Bulldogs for the 60-27 victory, pushing their record to 9-1.

Tecumseh led from stem to stern, as the Indians scored the first points of the game in the double-digit win. The Indians raced out of the opening tip, outscoring Chelsea 18-7 in the first quarter and 21-7 in the second to build a sizable 39-14 lead at the half.

The Indians put the game away with a big third quarter, outscoring Chelsea 21-5 to push the lead to 60-19 lead after three quarters. Chelsea buckled down defensively in the fourth and final quarter, holding Tecumseh scoreless but it was far too little too late as the Indians took the 60-27 win.

Tiny tidbits

Tecumseh dominated in the paint, outscoring Chelsea 28-12 while the Indians also took advantage of points off of turnovers, turning 16 Bulldog turnovers into 19 points. Chelsea meanwhile scored 11 points off of just eight Tecumseh turnovers.

Tecumseh out rebounded Chelsea 29-20, which in turn led to nine second chance points for the Indians.

Tecumseh shot the lights out all game long, finishing the night by shooting 20-of-45 from the field for 44.4%, which included 6 of 16 from 3-point land and 14 of 19 from the free throw line. Chelsea meanwhile struggled from the field, hitting 10 of 36 from the field for a 27.8% average, which included 3 of 18 from 3-point land. Chelsea was 4 for 4 from the free throw line however.

Top performers

Chloe Bullinger, Tecumseh – Bullinger finished the night with a team high 12 points to go with four assists, four steals and seven rebounds

Audrey McCarley, Chelsea – McCarley led all scorers for the game with 17 points while adding three steals and two rebounds.

Addi Zajac, Tecumseh – Zajac had another monster night, recording a dominant double-double, scoring 12 points to go with 10 rebounds. Zajac also added four assists and two blocks.

Makayla Schlorf, Tecumseh – Schlorf finished the night with 11 points, three assists, two steals and six rebounds. Schlorf also finished an impressive 7 for 8 from the free throw line.

Delaney Brown, Tecumseh – Brown had a solid night, scoring nine points to go with two assists and two steals

Avery Zajac, Tecumseh – Zajac finished with nine points, four steals and two rebounds.

What’s next?

With the win Tecumseh improves to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Tecumseh will be back in action Friday when it travels to Pinckney.

Chelsea falls to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Chelsea will be back in action Friday when it travels to Jackson.
