Zeeland West has hired Randall Mikkelson as head softball coach.
Mikkelson takes over for Kayla Smart, who stepped down after three years with the Dux, including a conference championship.
“I am still in shock and honored to be named as next head softball coach at Zeeland West. Although I am not from the community, I have coached for many years in multiple sports and have always admired Zeeland West Athletics,” Mikkelsen said in a news release.
The Dux have had a strong tradition of excellence with players who have gone on to play at the NCAA Division I level like Haley Hoogenraad (Michigan), Courtney Sleeman (Western Michigan) and Carly Sleeman (Central Michigan and Kentucky).
“Now, to be part of that and to be entrusted to helping develop skills, build confidence and character of these young athletes is an absolute dream come true,” Mikkelson said. “I cannot wait to get started.”
