Fox Sports' Joel Klatt discusses Texas' weaknesses vs. Texas A&M

No. 3 Texas A&M (11-0, 7-0 SEC) will take on No. 16 Texas (8-3, 5-2 SEC) on Friday night, as the Aggies head to Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium for the first time since 2010. After blowing out Samford 48-0 last Saturday, head coach Mike Elko’s post-game speech has jolted the 12th Man, who will look to flood Austin and affect the game.

One of the underrated aspects of Texas A&M’s success this season has been its road performance, as the Aggie offense has scored 38 or more points in each of its three road blowout victories: 45 against Arkansas, 49 against LSU, and 38 against Missouri.

Led by star quarterback Marcel Reed’s 2,752 yards and 25 touchdowns, OC Collin Klein has been, as the kids say, “in his bag” this season, as transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver have combined for over 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns, while the run game, even without senior running back Le’Veon Moss, the Aggie run game is averaging nearly 200 yards per game.

While most of you are enjoying your Thanksgiving feast, Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt recently stated that Texas’s shaky defense, especially the secondary, which allowed 37 points and over 500 yards against Arkansas last Saturday, poses a significant advantage for Marcel Reed and A&M’s offense.

“Texas scored 52 points against Arkansas last week, but they also gave up 37. I think that’s a problem.”

Klatt went on to state that Texas’s shaky offensive line will now face A&M’s elite pass rush, which has produced 39 sacks, led by senior edge Cashius Howell’s 11.5 sacks. While QB Arch Manning has played elite football over the past month, he has performed well under pressure and could be under siege through most of the night.

Texas A&M’s offense has been nearly unstoppable in the second half of every road game this season, but to beat this version of the Longhorns will take a complete performance on both sides of the ball.

Texas A&M vs. Texas will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will air on ABC on Friday night.
