A little over 24 hours before No. 3 Texas A&M takes on No. 16 Texas for the second consecutive season, the Aggies’ star quarterback Marcel Reed took time out of his busy week to sit down with popular NFL personality Kay Adams to discuss a plethora of topics, including former Alabama head coach Nick Saban comparing Reed to Heisman winner and Baltimore Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson.
However, Adams also asked Reed about Friday’s showdown in Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, as the redshirt sophomore was quick to reveal his true feelings about his rival from the 40 acres, which has only intensified after Texas left Kyle Field with a 17-7 win last season.
Texas A&M’s ‘revenge tour’ has yet to endure a loss, and while Marcel Reed was just six years old the last time the Aggies played the Longhorns on the road, these teams don’t like each other, and with a spot in the SEC Championship Game on the line, you can be sure the Aggies will be ready to roll on Friday night.
“I don’t like Texas and I’m sure my teammates don’t like Texas either.”
Reed’s dual-threat skill set has been on full display throughout the season, throwing for 2,752 yards and 25 touchdowns, combined with nearly 400 rushing yards and six scores. While Lamar Jackson is quite the comparison, Reed even admitted that the former Louisville standout is “more explosive,” but they’re not too far apart.
Reed also stated that Saban recruited him during his sophomore and junior seasons at Alabama. Still, the credit goes to former Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher, who sealed the deal with the Tennessee standout after the redshirt sophomore flipped from Ole Miss in late December 2023.
