Troopers force fleeing driver to stop, speeding at 107 mph

Authorities say a reckless driver speeding at more than 100 miles per hour and damaging three Florida Highway Patrol cars was arrested for driving under the influence early Thanksgiving morning.

Baldimir Domingo Lopez, 21, of Lehigh Acres, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. after giving chase to officers on eastbound Daniels Parkway near Treeline Avenue in Fort Myers, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was weaving in and out of traffic in a Toyota Camry at speeds in excess of 107 mph a posted speed zone of 45 mph.

Lopez was stopped on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after troopers used a tactical maneuver that forced his car to turn sideways abruptly, according to reports.

His blood alcohol level was 0.135, and he had a “BeatBox” alcoholic container in his car, according to reports. In Florida, the legal limit is 0.08.

Lopez was booked into the Lee County jail and faces charges of fleeing and eluding at high speeds, driving under the influence and three counts of DUI with property damage. He also is charged with three counts of reckless driving with property damage, according to reports.

He was issued a $2,500 citation for second offenses for speeding 50 mph or more over the speed limit.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 29.

Here’s what happened:

At around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 27, troopers attempted to stop Lopez for reckless driving. He was eastbound on Daniels near Treeline in Fort Myers and weaving in and out of lanes. He was driving in excess of 107 mph.

He sped up and ran through a red light and drove the wrong way and damaged three patrol cars, according to reports.

Lopez was finally stopped in a tactical vehicle maneuver on State Road 82, according to reports.
