SOUTH BEND — The Bergamot presents its annual “A South Shore Christmas” concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at the Morris Performing Arts Center, 211 N. Michigan St.
Now based in Brooklyn, N.Y., South Bend natives Jillian Speece and Nathaniel Paul Hoff formed The Bergamot while the two were students at Marian High School.
Since then, they’ve released several albums and made an award-winning documentary film.
For “A South Shore Christmas,” a tradition that’s more than a decade old for Speece and Hoff locally, the two will be joined by their full band and, on select songs, the Notre Dame Children’s Choir as they perform Christmas classics and original songs from their catalogue.
In September, The Bergamot and the Notre Dame Children’s Choir released the collaborative album “Give Love Away,” which was featured in Rolling Stone UK. Ben Lepper of Magnetic Magazine said in a cover story about the band, “The Bergamot have released something that feels almost radical: an album centered on hope.”
The Bergamot’s previous albums include “Static Flowers,” “Tones,” “Mayflies” and “Far Out.”
The 2022 documentary “State of the Unity” has won more than 20 awards at film festivals worldwide.
When Hurricane Helene trapped the duo in Asheville, N.C., for several days in September 2024, they made “What Actually Happened in Asheville: A Hurricane Helene Story.” The 27-minute video documents the extent of the hurricane’s damage and their own experiences. According to the Rolling Stone UK article, the video became the #1 trending video worldwide for 48 hours once they uploaded it to YouTube.
Tickets for “A South Shore Christmas” are $92.75-$36.25.
