Iowa women's basketball minus pair of guards vs. Western Illinois

Per No. 14 Iowa women’s basketball’s (6-0) game day availability report ahead of its nonconference game against Western Illinois (4-0) from Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday night, the Hawkeyes will be playing without two of their pivotal guards due to recent injuries.

According to the report, sophomore guards Chit-Chat Wright and Teagan Mallegni are listed as “out” for the matchup against the Leathernecks. Wright is recovering from an upper-body injury, while Mallegni’s is undisclosed.

Forward Emely Rodriguez is also listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury.

Wright departed the team’s 57-52 win over then-No. 10 Baylor early in the second half following a hard fall, where she would be later carried to the locker room by Iowa trainers and medical personnel. This will be Wright’s second consecutive game missed as she was absent from Saturday’s 64-61 win over Miami.

Wright averages 12.6 points, 4.8 assists, 1.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game on 58.3% shooting from the floor, 60.0% from 3-point range, and 90.0% from the free-throw line.

Mallegni has played in only three games thus far after she began the season with a left leg and ankle injury that she suffered in the Hawkeyes’ exhibition contest against Ashland. In those three games, the McFarland, Wis., native has averaged 1.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Rodriguez is averaging 7.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game on 42.5% field goal shooting.

The Hawkeyes and Leatherneck will tip off from Carver-Hawkeye Arena at 6:30 p.m. CT, with the game streaming exclusively on B1G+.
