Frost, freezing temps in Florida for Thanksgiving? See local forecast

Thanksgiving is here, and for Florida residents and visitors, the holiday promises a few changes from above-normal temperatures.

A cold front is expected to move through the Panhandle and Big Bend areas into Wednesday, Nov. 26, before reaching South Florida and clearing the state on Thanksgiving, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

As the front moves through, expect breezy, dry conditions. Wind gusts could reach 20 to 25 mph and even close to 30 mph at times.

Cooler temperatures are forecast across the state starting Thanksgiving and into Black Friday as the front moves through. Here’s what Jacksonville can expect.

How low will temperatures drop in North Florida?

Patchy frost or even a light freeze are possible Thursday night into Friday morning as temperatures fall across North Florida. Wind chills will be several degrees below freezing early Friday morning and early Saturday morning across the region, according to the National Weather Service Tallahassee.

What’s the weather like in Jacksonville for Thanksgiving and Black Friday 2025?

After several warmer-than-normal days, a cold front arrives Wednesday night and brings in a cooler, drier air mass for the holiday. The dry conditions will raise fire danger, and the colder nights may bring frost or a light freeze on Thursday and Friday nights.

The day starts mostly cloudy but gradually turns sunny. Highs reach around 67 with a northwest breeze near 10 mph and gusts up to 16 mph. By night, skies clear out and temperatures drop sharply to around 35, still with a light northwest wind. Frost is possible.

Forecast in Jacksonville: Friday, November 28, 2025

Friday will be sunny but noticeably cooler, with a high near 59 and a north wind around 10 mph, gusting up to 16 mph. By night, cloudy skies and lower temperatures are expected to reach around 38, continuing the potential for frost.

Frost, freezing conditions? How cold will it get in Florida for Thanksgiving, Black Friday?

Thanksgiving night will be the coldest night as low temperatures will fall near or below freezing — 32-34-degrees — across the I-10 corridor, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

Clear skies may allow for instances of patchy frost by sunrise Friday morning, and frost advisories may be issued.

The rest of North Florida will see low temperatures in the middle to upper 30s and lower 40s. Central Florida will have low temperatures in the middle to upper 40s and South Florida will see low temperatures in the 50s and 60s.

Current drought conditions in Florida

There’s an elevated fire danger on Thanksgiving due to low relative humidity and and ongoing drought, according to the National Weather Service Tallahassee.

Red flag warnings may be needed on Thanksgiving for portions of North Florida as dry conditions combine with gusty winds to bring a fire danger to the area.
