Downtown Stockton will transform once again on Thanksgiving morning for this year’s Run and Walk Against Hunger.
The Emergency Food Bank Stockton/San Joaquin’s annual event is back for its 21st year on Thursday, Nov. 27. The event is presented by the Aaron Judge ALL RISE Foundation.
“The Run and Walk was started 21 years ago through Ralph Womack, one of our board directors, in an effort to sustain the programs of the Emergency Food Bank,” said Alesha B. Pichler, community relations manager for the Emergency Food Bank Stockton/San Joaquin. “That continues to this day, 21 years later, all the money raised through this run against hunger will go to support the nutrition education programs of the Emergency Food Bank.”
For those who have not registered, it’s not too late.
While online registration has closed, day-of registration will be available starting at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Banner Island Ballpark at 404 W. Fremont Street, the race’s website states.
Registration will be $50 for anyone 10 years old or older participating in the 5k or 10k, and $25 for children 9 years old and under.
Payments will be accepted in all forms such as “cash, check, card, tap,” Pichler said.
Last year, nearly 2,500 people participated in the event. The Emergency Food Bank Stockton/San Joaquin’s goal for this year is to “see 3,000 runners and walkers cross the finish line,” the Run & Walk Against Hunger website states.
Pichler said, while the race “has changed very very little” throughout the years, through sponsorship, they added “runner finishing medals for the first 2,000 runners that finished the race” last year and will continue this year.
Run & Walk Against Hunger Race Day Schedule
“We are proud that we continue this tradition, and it’s all due to the runners that register for the race and the sponsors who sponsor the event,” Pichler said. “A huge thank you to the Aaron Judge (ALL RISE) Foundation for being the presenting sponsor of the run.”
