Florida is home to thousands who worked hard, saved diligently, and moved here to enjoy their golden years. But for too many, navigating the healthcare system brings confusion, stress and unexpected financial strain.
At The Palm Beach Post, we’re committed to helping older residents and their families make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
Our newsroom provides clear, trustworthy reporting on the issues that matter most:
∎ Rising medical costs and how to manage them
∎ Finding quality care close to home
∎ Planning for long-term care and support services
∎ Tips on when to take the car keys from senior loved ones and when you or your loved ones should switch to geriatric care
Our new series, Aging in the Golden Years, has already published over 10 stories and we’re hearing how valuable this reporting is directly from members of our community. The series reported and written by our very own Anne Geggis.
When Anne wrote a story titled “When to hang up the keys? Options for unsafe older drivers,” she received this response from one reader: “I just read the article on turning over the keys. My mother agreed to give up driving but she did miss it as it did represent a level of freedom. … Your article will be a help to those in the situation. Thank you.”
After Anne wrote the story “What help is there to manage the disability of a loved one?,” she received this response: “Loved the article in this morning’s Post. Bravo for going to make this an ongoing series.”
She went on: “Getting HELP… not only from the financial advisor and attorney, but with caretaking in Florida is not cheap, quick or easy but SO very vital to aging with grace and having a peaceful ending to a beautiful life. Please advise your readers of these vital steps.
“Looking forward to more of your articles!”
After a story on long-term care, one reader ended her letter with: “Ms. Geggis, I thank you for addressing the issues that are affecting us, Senior Citizens.”
This Giving Tuesday, Dec. 2, we hope you extend your generosity to support trusted, local news that informs Floridians by providing critical, timely and clear healthcare news.
