Texas A&M (5-2) scored the most points in Reed Arena history on Tuesday night after defeating Mississippi Valley State 120-84, led by Indiana transfer’s 19 points during his first complete game back after dealing with a foot injury that kept him sidelined for five of the Aggies’ seven games.
Like all four of the Aggies’ previous wins, Texas A&M’s roster has been extremely unselfish, producing six double-digit scoring efforts, while shooting 50% from the field and 47% from beyond the arc. Recording 31 rebounds, 25 assists, and 13 steals in what was a complete team effort that likely won’t be replicated, but is still highly impressive.
What’s even more telling is that the Aggies were down two key starters with forward Rashaun Agee and guard Rylan Griffen sidelined on Tuesday, and while blowing out a 1-7 MVSU team without both players was always doable, facing Florida State on Friday will require a healthy roster to get the job done.
After the win, first-year head coach Bucky McMillan provided good news regarding both players’ return to the court, as Agee and Griffen are in line to return on Friday to face the Seminoles.
“Rashaun is fine, he’ll be back and good next game. I’m hoping to get Rylan Griffen back next game, he’s got the flu, so hopefully he can come back and be fresh against Florida State.”
Agee averages 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds, and is currently shooting 54.8% from the field. Griffen is also averaging 11.2 points 40% from beyond the arc.
Texas A&M will face Florida State on Friday at 4:00 p.m., airing on ESPN2.
