While many retailers, restaurants and businesses will be closed on Thanksgiving, most will reopen — bright and early — on the most popular shopping day of the year.
Black Friday is Nov. 28, the day after Thanksgiving, and often marks the start of holiday shopping, with stores offering deals and discounts both online and in store. Almost two in three Americans (64%) say they plan to shop on Black Friday this year, according to a report by Lending Tree.
While stores are open on Black Friday, here’s what else will be reopened after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Why is it called Black Friday?
The term dates back to the early 1960s, according to Britannica, when police officers in Philadelphia began using the phrase “Black Friday” to describe the chaos that resulted when tourists began their holiday shopping, which caused more traffic, accidents, and other issues.
Britannica notes that many think the term Black Friday derives from the concept that businesses operate at a financial loss, or are “in the red,” until the day after Thanksgiving, when massive sales finally allow them to turn a profit, or put them “in the black,” but says this is untrue.
The phrase “Black Friday” didn’t spread nationwide until the late 1980s, when merchants began spreading the red-to-black profit narrative.
