The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that an inmate died Nov. 22 after a health incident at the county jail.
According to a news release, the 61-year-old man began experiencing a medical emergency and was taken by ambulance to United Regional Health Care.
He was pronounced dead at 12:58 a.m. on Nov. 22.
The sheriff’s office did not release the man’s name. Sheriff Will Rutledge said the inmate was being held on a state charge, but did not specify what it was.
The incident is under investigation by the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Texas Rangers.
Jails must report all custodial deaths to the Texas Attorney General’s Office, but as of Tuesday no report was available online for the Wichita Falls incident.
