If you haven’t nominated your favorite community leader or organization for this year’s Excalibur and Excelsior Awards yet, there’s still time.

Nominations opened in August and are due Oct. 1.

This is the perfect time for you to help the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, the Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence and the Rockford Register Star honor individuals and groups that make the fabric of our community stronger with their good works.

Nominating is easy. All you need to do is visit excaliburexcelsior.com and click on “Nominations Open Now.” The website will guide you through the entire process.

The community will come together Dec. 11 to celebrate the recipients of six awards: the Excalibur Award, recognizing an individual who exemplifies excellence in community service; the Excelsior Award, recognizing an organization or group/project/initiativethat exemplifies excellence in community service; and four Community Champion Awards, recognizing effort and impact by an individual, organization, or group/project/initiative in each of the four counties of our region — Boone, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago.

Recipients of all six awards will come from the same pool of nominees.

Past nominees and finalists may be re-nominated, but past winners are ineligible.

For a list of past winners, visit excaliburexcelsior.com/history.

The Excalibur Award, created and launched by the Rockford Register Star in 1971, honors an individual who exemplifies excellence in community service. It was joined by the Excelsior Award, which honors an organization of the same merit, in 1979.

After a brief hiatus, the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois (CFNIL), in partnership with the Rockford Register Star and the Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence (NICNE), announced an organizational collaboration that facilitated the return of the Excalibur and Excelsior Awards in 2023.

We invite everyone in the community to join us in honoring those who help make our community a better place.

It all starts with the nominations.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Community Foundation, NICNE or myself.
