Former Texas A&M DE shattering sack records in ninth NFL season

Texas A&M’s former defensive end continues to wreak havoc and set franchise records in what has been a historic season for the current Cleveland Browns star.

In Sunday’s contest against the Las Vegas Raiders, Myles Garrett set a career high and new team record of 18 sacks in a single season. The former Aggie legend has recorded 14 sacks in the last five games, three of which came with an emphatic statement against the Raiders on the road. Garrett is on pace to set the NFL record for most sacks in a season, which is currently shared by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt (22.5).

With his three sacks on Sunday, he became just the third player in NFL history to record at least 17 sacks in the first 11 games of the season, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White and Mark Gastineau.

While Garrett was only in Bryan-College Station, Texas, for two seasons before being drafted as the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Browns, his contributions for the Aggies were impressive and historic in their own right. The first-team All-American and finalist for honors like the Rotary Lombardi Award, Ted Hendricks Award, and others, led the Southeastern Conference in sacks, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles during his sophomore campaign in 2015.

His success at the collegiate level carried over tenfold into his professional career, as Garrett continues to shatter records set by the league’s legends. He has made his mark and displayed that he remains the most dominant defensive force in the NFL by becoming the first player since 1982 to secure 12 sacks in six consecutive seasons. Garrett also ranks atop the league in total sacks since being drafted by Cleveland in 2017.
