A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized Nov. 21 following a shooting near the intersection of Yeager Way and Russell Avenue, Akron police Lt. Michael Murphy said in a statement.
Officers responded to the location around 11:39 a.m. for reports of a shooting after learning the teen was previously in front of a corner store near West South Street and Princeton Street. When officers arrived, they found the teen had been shot multiple times. He was immediately transferred to a local hospital and went into surgery for his wounds, Murphy said in a release.
Detectives from the Juvenile and Missing Persons Unit, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to survey the area and collect evidence.
Initial findings determined that the teen and a 15-year-old friend were walking south on Yeager Way when they were approached by an unknown suspect who was wearing a black puffy coat and a ski mask, Murphy reported. The suspect fired several shots, striking the 17-year-old victim twice. It was then that teens ran to the corner store for help, Murphy said.
No arrests have been made.
