Here is a recap of how Coastal Bend teams fared during the area round of the UIL high school football playoffs.
Gregory-Portland 73, Sharyland 21
The Wildcats erupted for 39 first-half points to set the tone of a blowout playoff victory at home. G-P’s Carter Dominguez had another memorable game after completing 11 of 16 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Dominguez also had 17 carries for 101 yards and a pair of scores.
Calallen 42, Canyon Lake 14
The Wildcats scored in every quarter and turned in another stellar defensive performance to secure a victory against the Hawks. Freshman running back Jimmy Tipton led the offense with 19 carries for 100 yards and one touchdown. Drayson Gamez set the tone on defense by recording two pick-6s (70 and 80 yards) to tie the Calallen school record.
Rockport-Fulton 56, Salado 28
The Pirates went to work on the ground by combining for 437 yards rushing in a win against Salado. Zane Rios (115 yards), Jaxon Keown (139) and Traey Alvarado (151) combined for six touchdowns in the victory. Senior Wyatt Kalhoefer finished with 16 tackles to pace Rockport-Fulton’s defense.
San Antonio Pieper 42, Flour Bluff 35
In what was almost a repeat of last season’s historic playoff matchup, the Hornets’ 2025 season came to an end after a late surge by the Warriors. Quarterback Lucian Cruz led the Hornets with 358 yards of offense and two touchdowns to receiver Ransom Watson. Samuel Smith led the Hornets on the ground with 23 carries for 121 yards and three touchdown. Kolton Strey recorded a sack on defense for Flour Bluff.
Smithson Valley 34, Veterans Memorial 0
The Eagles’ 2025 season came to a close after a loss to the defending state champions at the Alamodome. The Eagles kept the Rangers at bay by holding them to 21 first-half points, but the offense was unable to get going as Smithson Valley returned to the regional semifinals. Veterans Memorial running back Andrew Charlebois led the Eagles with 23 carries for 76 yards.
Wimberley 45, Robstown 20
The Pickers kept things close, but a late surge by the Texans propelled them to victory on Thursday. Robstown was led by quarterback Trevin Crowley, who completed 16 of 28 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Tim Sanchez had another strong game after recording seven catches for 90 yards and a touchdown for the Pickers. It was the first area round playoff game for Robstown since 2010.
Sinton 52, Jarrell 21
Mykha Green turned in another stellar performance after finishing with 22 carries for 285 yards and five touchdown in the Pirates’ area round win. Green, who is Sinton’s all-time rushing leader, also had one catch for 23 yards. Marcos Zapata added 153 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Sinton advances back to the regional semifinals to play Wimberley for the third consecutive season.
Ingram Tom Moore 37, Orange Grove 21
Orange Grove’s Linden Rodriguez threw three second-quarter touchdown passes as the Bulldogs fell in area round of the playoffs. Rodriguez went 20 of 31 for 256 yards with three scores, hitting Daniel Martinez for touchdowns of 66 and 50 yards, and Diego Serna for a 13-yard strike that gave Orange Grove a 21-16 halftime lead. Martinez finished with five catches for 142 yards, while Brady Jenkins added six receptions for 88 yards for the Bulldogs.
Llano 53, London 12
Alex Manning led the Pirates through the air by completing 13 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown to Maddox Jennings in a loss to the Yellowjackets. Ryan Martinez paced London on the ground with two carries for 44 yards.
Refugio 42, Rosebud-Lott 21
Refugio quarterback Ray Lewis completed 13 of 16 passes for 205 yards and Zander Wills had 11 carries for 204 yards to lift the Bobcats to a victory. Lewis finished with one touchdown and Wills had three on the ground to lead Refugio. The win by the Bobcats sets up a rematch with defending state champion Ganado.
