Pensacola Del Taco 1 of 5 regional franchises to abruptly close

Not even a year after opening, Pensacola’s long-awaited Del Taco is permanently shutting down shop Nov. 25, Del Taco General Manager Kimberly Garrasi confirmed to the News Journal on Monday.

The Pensacola store at 404 Brent Lane is one of five Florida franchises to close abruptly, with the Crawfordville and Tallahassee stores leading the charge last week, followed by Santa Rosa Beach and DeFuniak Springs, which closed on Nov. 24, according to Garrasi.

In October, Del Taco’s parent company, Jack in the Box Inc., which acquired Del Taco in 2021 for $575 million, said it was selling Del Taco Holdings Inc. to Yadav Enterprises Inc. for $115 million, even though Jack in the Box acquired it in 2021 for $575 million, absorbing a $460 million loss.

The fast-casual Mexican food chain, founded in Yermo, California, in 1964, was known for everything from its classics, like the signature Del Taco with seasoned beef, house-grated cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and a corn shell, to its signatures, such as the Epic Carne Asada Steak Cali Bacon Burrito.

The restaurant opened its doors to the public in February, but had been in the works since late 2023, when a group of Miami developers applied for the site, sparking anticipation for opening day among the Pensacola community.

Pensacola’s Del Taco will be serving up its last customers on Nov. 24, with hours of operation scheduled from 10 a.m. to midnight.
