A Rochester teen accused of killing a 35-year-old Buffalo man in 2023 has been convicted by a Monroe County Court jury this week.
Kyelon Marbury, now 19, on Wednesday was found guilty of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, for the Feb. 18, 2023 shooting death of Jermaine Wilkins and shooting and injuring a second person with a stray bullet, according to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office.
Marbury, according to authorities, ran down Denver Street and fired multiple gunshots at Wilkins. Wilkins then ran to a nearby house on Parsells Avenue where around 9:20 p.m. he knocked on a door yelling that he was shot. The residents called 911 and attempted to help. Officers called to the scene found Wilkins, who was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Rochester police.
“Kyelon Marbury showed a complete disregard for human life when he took the life of Jermaine Wilkins and opened fire on our community,” Monroe County District Attorney Brian Green said in a news release.
Wilkins, a Buffalo resident at the time he was killed, was in the area visiting family, according to police.
Earlier that same February day, Marbury jumped out of a vehicle on Scio Street and fired multiple shots at an individual, according to the District Attorney’s Office. He also fired multiple rounds “while hanging hanging out the window of that same vehicle. The intended target was not hit by the gunfire.”
Twice that night, “Kyelon Marbury exited a motor vehicle and violently and callously fired off rounds at victims for no reason,” said Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst, who prosecuted the case. Although he did not kill his intended target that afternoon, he killed Wilkins that night he said. “The defendant was out that day with the intention to terrorize and harm innocent members of the Rochester community.”
Marbury was charged with Wilkins’ death in July 2023, after he was apprehended at a Henrietta hotel. He and another teen last year were charged with the unrelated April 2023 shooting death of James Huff IV as Huff was walking on Webster Avenue. In what appeared to be a drive-by shooting, Huff, 31, died of his injuries at the hospital several hours after he was shot.
Marbury and Al Oliver Jr., who are both charged with second-degree murder in connection with Huff’s death, are set to go to trial at a later date, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Marbury is scheduled to be sentenced by Monroe County Court Judge Julie Hahn on Jan. 23, 2026.
