Man killed at Rochester gas station identified

Rochester police have identified the man shot to death in a car outside a gas station Tuesday night.

Willie Mayhall, 36, of Rochester appeared to be the intended target when he was shot while sitting in his vehicle parked outside a gas station at the corner of St. Paul and Norton streets, around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18,  said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department. Mayhall was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mayhall was alone inside his car, which was parked at the gas pumps, when someone walked up to the vehicle and fired several times into the car. The shooter then ran from the scene, Umbrino said.

Investigators believe Mayhall was the intended target, and that this “was not a random act of violence,” Umbrino said.

No charges have been filed in connection with the homicide.
