A new shopping area may open in the future in west Wichita Falls.
GB Construction plans to build a strip center on the northeast corner of Seymour Highway and Barnett Road.
Construction company owner Joseph Rodriguez said initial plans are to build a facility to accommodate five or six businesses.
“We’re getting a lot of interest, and so it may turn in to be seven or eight or maybe nine. We’ve got plenty of room to do what we need to do there,” Rodriguez said. He said a couple of retailers are ready to sign up but didn’t say who they are.
He noted there’s a scarcity of restaurants in the area.
“So we do have someone that’s going to be doing a restaurant,” he said. He also said a satellite local banking facility may locate on the property.
He said the owners of the property see potential residential as well as commercial growth in the area, and 10 acres adjacent to the strip center may be prime for condominiums or high-end apartment complexes.
“The idea is to attract some people to that northwest side of town and try to grow it out that way,” Rodriguez said.
He said the project is still in the design phase, but he hopes to break ground in the next six to eight months and have the project completed between March and May of 2027.
