Four women from Texas were killed and a truck driver was injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 87, about 10 miles south of Dalhart, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened around 1:40 p.m. Nov. 5 when a southbound 2020 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a semi-trailer struck the rear of a 2020 Nissan Altima that was also heading south but moving slowly because of a flat tire, DPS officials said.
The driver of the Nissan, Myunique Johnson, 20, of Stratford, and three passengers — Lakeisha Brown, 18, of Galveston; Breanna Brantley, 31, of Rosharon; and Taylor White, 28, of Missouri City — were all pronounced dead at the scene. All four were wearing seat belts.
The truck driver, Daniel Villarreal Guadalupe, 39, of Converse, was transported by ambulance to Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart with non-life-threatening injuries. He was also wearing a seat belt.
Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the collision.
The Hartley County crash remains under investigation and marks the fourth fatal wreck reported by DPS in the Texas Panhandle this week.
