Will Monroe County Community College be getting a Turning Point USA chapter?

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, Monroe County Community College released a statement about the status of a proposed Turning Point USA chapter at the college.

The statement said that there had been no denial of a Turning Point USA chapter by MCCC’s Student Government Association, despite what it called “numerous inaccurate statements and rumors made on social media over the last day or so.”

According to Student Government advisor Edmund La Clair, the Turning Point USA petitioners submitted the final draft of the proposed group’s constitution on Tuesday, Oct. 21. The final version reads as follows:

“Functions as an official club on campus and connects Monroe County Community College students exists to educate and organize students around the values of limited government, free markets, and individual liberty. It provides a platform for young people to engage in dialogue, host events, and connect with likeminded peers. Ultimately, the goal is to empower the next generation of leaders to advocate for conservative principles on their campuses and in their communities.”

“We believe by promoting respectful civic engagement, encouraging open dialogue, and upholding conservative values we can bring true viewpoint diversity to campus and foster an environment of thoughtful discussion and active participation,” said Jacob Helton, president of the Organizing Committee for Turning Point USA at Monroe County Community College. “We’re both excited for and confident in our chapter’s official recognition and approval on October 28th. It’s the start of something meaningful for our college and our community.”

According to the statement, a vote on the chapter is anticipated at the next Student Government Association meeting at 12:30 p.m. today, Oct. 28.

Turning Point USA is a non-profit organization that advocates for conservative politics in education. Recently assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk founded it in 2012.
