Texas A&M vs. LSU predictions, picks, odds: Who wins the Week 9 football game?

The No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies are 7-0 for the first time since 1994, and yet a handful of critics still believe the Aggies are frauds at this point. Much of the criticism centers around their relatively soft schedule, but as the saying goes, “you can only play who’s in front of you.”

LSU has been somewhat of a disappointment this season. Despite a 5-2 record, they’re just 2-2 in SEC play, with losses to Vanderbilt and Ole Miss. To be fair, both teams are ranked in the top 10 and are led by coaches who know how to call a game. After entering the season with Garrett Nussmeier touted as a Heisman candidate and the team viewed as a College Football Playoff contender, LSU’s current standing has fans calling for Brian Kelly’s job.

As for the Aggies, they’re winning the games they’re supposed to win—even if they’re not playing their best football. Victories over Notre Dame and Arkansas are matchups A&M likely would have dropped in previous seasons.

Looking ahead, aside from Samford, the remaining schedule features solid SEC tests. The Aggies will likely be favored in those contests, though not by much. Coach Mike Elko has his squad playing like one of the top programs in the country, and the fan base is starting to believe.

Historically, LSU has dominated this matchup, but there’s a strong chance A&M bucks that trend on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ABC. You can stream Texas A&M vs. LSU live on FUBO (free trial) or ESPN+.

This matchup pits a surging Texas A&M team against an LSU squad teetering on the edge, with their coach potentially on the hot seat following the loss to Vanderbilt.

Still, when these teams meet, past narratives often go out the window. Historically, the home team has won the majority of these contests. However, this year, the Aggies appear to be the more complete team and have consistently found ways to win. Even against strong defenses, A&M has moved the ball effectively—though penalties have stalled drives or nullified touchdowns. LSU’s offense hasn’t lived up to expectations, but its defense has kept them competitive.

This game could reach a maximum of 50 points, with Texas A&M edging out a win by less than a touchdown.

Prediction: 27-23 Texas A&M
