Florida State football coach Mike Norvell announced on his Monday press conference that linebacker Stefon Thompson will be out this week for the Stanford game.
Thompson’s injury escalated during the Pittsburgh loss, where he was seen walking to the locker room in the second half. The Nebraska transfer, who has been in the starting rotation, provides experience in defensive coordinator Tony White’s 3-3-5 defense.
Norvell is hoping that Thompson will return after the bye week, as the Seminoles will return to Doak Campbell Stadium to host Wake Forest on Nov. 1.
Thompson has played every game and started two for the Seminoles. The sixth-year senior registered 12 total tackles, three TFLs and 1.5 sacks.
In his career, he started 22 of the 47 games, recording 199 tackles, 20.0 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two pass breakups in his time at Nebraska and Syracuse, which he played for White when he was the DC there.
With the loss of Thompson, FSU has made adjustments in the depth chart. Omar Graham Jr is starting the JACK position and Caleb LaValle has moved up behind him.
The FSU-Stanford game is set to kick off at 10:30 p.m. EST at Stanford Stadium on ESPN.
FSU WR Duce Robinson’s injury remains questionable
As for wide receiver Duce Robinson, his status is still up in the air after he did not return in the second half of the Pitt game. Fortunately, Norvell said Robinson has been practicing and is hopeful he will be ready for the Stanford game.
With FSU already thin at wide receiver with Squirrel White and Jayvan Boggs out during the Pitt game. Robinson has been the go-to target for the Seminoles, leading the team with 25 receptions. 443 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
