The Grand Valley State football team took a little while to get the offense rolling on their long trip to the Upper Peninsula to face Northern Michigan.
But it got going quick in the second half as the Lakers scored 21 points in the third on their way to a 35-7 win over the Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 11.
GVSU improved to 4-1, while the Wildcats dropped to 0-6.
The Lakers continued to play multiple quarterbacks.
Quarterback Zak Olejniczak got the offense going with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Lynn Wyche-El.
Paschal Jolman had a 14-yard touchdown run and Andrew Schuster threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Kenyon Owens.
Schuster got the Lakers into the end zone in the first half, too. He threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Kellen Reed on fourth-and-5 to put GVSU up 7-0.
In the fourth quarter, Kenneth Jones scored on a 4-yard run.
Schuster was 13-for-22 passing for 161 yards with one interception. Olejniczak was 2-for-3 passing for 44 yards and Brady Drogosh was 1-for-3 passing for 15 yards but led the team in rushing with 40 yards on three carries. Reed had three catches for 72 yards.
Elijah Baker had seven tackles to lead the Lakers. Jimmy Downs added six tackles and two for losses.
Jason Hardy, Chris Little and Tommy Barnett each grabbed an interception. The GVSU defense forced five turnovers.
