WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. — David Olano was clutch last week when he hit a walk-off field goal to help the nationally ranked Illinois football team beat USC.
Now, the Illini kicker is a record-setter.
Olano made five field goals and had 19 kicking points in Illinois’ 43-27 victory Saturday against Purdue — both program records. Olano’s fifth field goal was a 40-yarder and came with 1:06 remaining to set the final score.
Olano joins four other Illini kickers in the record book: Doug Higgins (1990), Chris White (1984), Mike Bass (1982) and Dan Beaver (1973) each also hit five field goals in a single game.
Before Olano’s performance Saturday, the Illinois program record for kicking points in a game was 17 — previously held by Chris Richardson (1993) and James McCourt (2021).
