Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class could end up being coach Mike Elko’s most talented haul heading into this time next year. After hosting nearly 30 prospects from the cycle during the Aggies’ 16-10 home win over the Auburn Tigers, Elko landed his third commit in the class after three-star athlete Hakim Frampton announced his intentions minutes after the victory.
Not all wins are the same, and with a host of defensive talent watching from the sidelines, Texas A&M’s defense completely shut down the Tigers, limiting the visitors to just 177 yards while producing seven sacks and holding Auburn’s offense to 0-13 on third down, which is almost unheard of.
One elite prospect who was not on the visitors’ list, 2027 five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, spoke highly about Texas A&M’s coaching staff this summer, and recently placed the Aggies on his Top 12 program list, joining Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Penn State, Oklahoma, Florida State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Notre Dame, and Clemson.
So far, Dobson has taken visits to South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame, which coincided with the Fighting Irish’s 41-40 loss to Texas A&M. While the defense, including the Aggie secondary, didn’t perform particularly well that night, he still had the chance to see how Mike Elko operates in live action.
However, after his unofficial visit to College Station this summer, Dobson had nothing but praise for what Elko and his staff are building.
“I was out there two weeks ago, and, just like everything, coach (Mike) Elko is a DB (defensive back) coach, so that means alot to me right there, and just seeing the stadium (Kyle Field) and just seeing the way they go about things.”
During his 2024 sophomore season, Dobson recorded 48 tackles, three interceptions, and ten pass breakups. According to 247Sports, Dobson is currently positioned as the 7th-ranked prospect, the 2nd-ranked cornerback, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in South Carolina.
