HILLSDALE COUNTY — The massive swing from Week 1 to Week 2 for 8-player football brought four new teams to the win columns for the 2025 high school football season. Meanwhile, Jonesville continues to maintain a physically dominant effort offensively and defensively as the lone 2-0 squad in Hillsdale County.
While wins begin to come in for area teams, coaches look to make sure the pendulum doesn’t swing back the other direction. For Coach Kody Hodshire of North Adams-Jerome, the Rams’ victory over St. Phillip marked the next steps of (hopefully) a culture change.

Next up for the Rams (1-1) is a trip to Burr Oak. Burr Oak (1-1) was a playoff team last fall, and more recently put up 200 rushing yards against the Pittsford Wildcats. Coach Hodshire says the Rams will have to contend with the speed of the Bobcats in order to secure a win in their first road test of the season.
Pittsford 50, Burr Oak 30
After a turnover-plagued opening season loss to Britton Deerfield, the reigning SCAA-B champion Pittsford Wildcats (1-1) got back to winning football on the road at Burr Oak. Jake Drawe found his targets efficiently and kept the Wildcat offense humming. The Wildcats were fueled and ready to win thanks to a special message the team received from Wildcat coach Jake Burger’s former Hillsdale College teammate Isaac TeSlaa.
Coach Mike Burger saw the team take another step forward thanks to a great week of practice, something they’ll look to continue.
“We got a little better,” Burger said. “And I was glad to see the growth. Our ceiling rose a little because of our week of practice. Now, we have to stack another good week of practice on top of it.”
The Wildcats have a favorable road schedule ahead with 0-2 Tekonsha next at-bat this Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
Camden-Frontier 58, Tekonsha 8
A standout night for Camden-Frontier senior quarterback Luis Castro-Thilo earned the RedHawks their first win of the season — at home — and the first of coach Kevin Slusher’s reign at the helm.

Camden-Frontier looks to win back the rivalry jug trophy when they visit Waldron this Friday at 7 p.m.
Waldron 58, Litchfield 18
The Spartans and the Terriers battled in a 8-player rivalry matchup that brought Waldron its first win of the season — and Litchfield its second loss.
After a 14-12 halftime lead, things opened up for Waldron with a 38-point third-quarter.
“We didn’t start off very good again but came back to make it a one possession game at halftime,” Terrier coach Michael Langhann said. “We didn’t recover the onside kick to begin the half and it was really downhill from there.”
Waldron prepares for a home battle against SCAA-Blue rival Camden-Frontier. Signs of improvement up front and in the turnover battle look to give the Spartans a good home field advantage next Friday.
“Still turning the ball over too much,” coach Anthony Roney said. “But over 500 yards of total offense — (we) did a good job controlling the line of scrimmage.”
The Litcfhield Terriers (0-2) and coach Michael Langhann got hit with the injury bug in Week 2 but had several players step up in big ways, including junior Brayden Bradley. This should give the Terriers a shot at earning their first win of the season when they visit St. Phillip (0-2) this Friday.
Other scores
Jonesville 38, Grass Lake 34
A career-high rushing day for junior John Milks helped solidify another gritty win for Jonesville football. The Comets (2-0) have one more Cascades East game ahead before they start league play. They face Napoleon at home in a rematch from last year’s tough road loss (24-22 final).
Springport 43, Reading 18
The Reading offense couldn’t find a big spark against a vengeful Spartan defense. The Rangers (0-2) look to shake things up on the road at Maple Valley (0-2) this week.
Blissfield 47, Hillsdale 28
Coach Joe Williamson’s squad had a breakout second-half offensively, led by junior quarterback Evan Towne. However, the Royals matched the Hornets point-for-point. The Hornets return home for a matchup with the Ida Bluestreaks (1-1) — who are reeling from an 8-3 loss to Hudson. The LCAA rival scored 48 in their opening season victory.
