No Bryson vs Brooks, but LIV's Michigan Team Championship semifinals set at The Cardinal

Well, there won’t be a Bryson DeChambeau vs. Brooks Koepka showdown.

Even though their teams will face each other in the semifinals Saturday, Aug. 23, in LIV Golf’s Michigan Team Championship at The Cardinal at Saint John’s, the two rivals won’t go head-to-head in singles.

DeChambeau, captain of Crushers GC, picked a match against Koepka’s Smash GC team. But after Koepka announced himself as the No. 1 singles player for his team in the semis, DeChambeau avoided Koepka by naming himself the No. 2 singles player, opting instead to face Smash’s Talor Gooch.

Why?

“I’ve got my reasons,” he said with a smile.

Too bad, since a DeChambeau-Koepka match had the potential for fireworks, especially in match play, between the two long-standing rivals.

In the other two matches, Jon Rahm’s top-seeded Legion XIII will face Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers, and Torque will take on Stinger.

In the six quarterfinal matches, Legion XIII beat Cleeks, Crushers beat Majestics, HyFlyers beat Fireballs, Torque beat RangeGoats, Smash beat 4Aces, and Stinger beat Ripper.

All 12 teams will continue to play Saturday. The three winning teams from the championship bracket will advance to the finals Sunday, Aug. 24, which will shift to stroke play.
