Art Fair set for Aug. 30 & 31
The Algonac Lions Club submitted a Special Events Permit for the 53rd Annual Algonac Art Fair in Riverfront Park on Saturday, August 30 and Sunday August 31, 2025. In a memo to the city council City Manager Denice Gerstenberg noted that the permit application had been approved by administration and the St. Clair County Sheriff, pending the approval of insurance. The council unanimously approved the permit.

An invoice in the amount of $24,250 for electric work at the former Algonac Elementary School that will now be known as the Algonac Community Center was approved by the council. The General Contractor, Salski Construction, was approved by City Council on August 6, 2024.
Stephenson Electric Company was approved to perform electrical services by City Council April 1, 2025.
Fire Dept. gets new grass unit
A memo in the meeting packet from Fire Chief Joseph Doan sought the approval to purchase a Ford F-350 from MiDEAL to replace the existing 1984 Ford Grass Unit. Members of the city council okayed the purchase in the amount of $75,128. This new vehicle will be capable of towing the Fire/Rescue boat and will be equipped with emergency lighting, Doan said. He also noted that $73,000 was budgeted for the purchase in the 2025-2026 Budget.
Library door replacement okayed
In a memo to the council City Manager Denice Gerstenberg said the side door at the Algonac-Clay Library needed replacing at a cost of $1,855. The Algonac-Clay Library Maintenance Agreement between Algonac, Clay Township and the Library states “Any expenditure in excess of $500 must be approved by the respective governing bodies of the city and township prior to expenditure”. Every year the city and Clay Township DDA put $5,000 into a capital
improvement fund for these kinds of expenses. Currently the account has a balance of $67,000. Officials approved the expenditure for the new door.
City to participate in Teal campaign
Tie Michigan Teal is a state-wide Ovarian Cancer Awareness campaign sponsored by the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance. In a memo to the city council City Manager Denice Gerstenberg explained teal is the color representing ovarian cancer; one of the deadliest cancers affecting women. There is no early detection test and symptoms are often so subtle and hard to distinguish that the disease is hard to diagnose leading to poor long-term survival rates. The organization is asking for permission to tie teal ribbons on the lamp posts along Riverfront Park and distribute information during the month of September. There is no cost to the city and ribbons will be removed at the end of the month. The city has participated since 2021.
