Sixty Texas Longhorns made their way down Polk Street on Saturday morning, June 7, drawing hundreds of spectators to downtown Amarillo for the annual Coors Cowboy Club Cattle Drive.
Now in its 12th year since being revived in 2014, the event honors Amarillo’s cattle-driving heritage and its emergence as a premier shipping hub in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The drive is a key part of the Texas Route 66 Festival, celebrating the Panhandle’s Western roots with mounted riders, motorized groups, and periodic staged Old West shootouts.
The procession began at 10 a.m., traveling north on Polk Street before turning onto 3rd Street, continuing along Marrs, and heading down 10th Street toward the Tri-State Fairgrounds, where the herd passed beneath the venue’s iconic lighted arch.
Families, longtime residents and visitors lined the route to wave at riders in red shirts, snap photos of the longhorns and celebrate a tradition that continues to bring Amarillo’s cowboy spirit to life.
