The 2025-26 northern pike and walleye fishing season opener in the Upper Peninsula is days away, but anglers need to remember to purchase a license before casting a line.
Everyone 17 and older who targets fish, amphibians, crustaceans and reptiles in public waters needs a license, the Department of Natural Resources said. If you’re 17 or older and fish in Michigan, you must purchase a fishing license.
