LANSING TWP. – Plans for a new Aldi store off Lake Lansing Road, not far from the Eastwood Towne Center, have been approved.

Lansing Township’s Board of Trustees approved a site plan for the location in late March, township Planner Brad Beck said.

It would be the Lansing area’s fourth store.

The Illinois-based discount supermarket chain with more than 3,000 stores in the U.S. intends to lease land already zoned for commercial use at 2110 Lake Lansing Road.

The company plans to construct an approximately 20,600-square-foot store. Plans indicate the store’s parking lot would accommodate 90 vehicles.

It’s unclear what the timeline for the store’s construction is, when it’s expected to open, or how many people it will employ.

Andrew Shaw, director of real estate for Aldi’s Midwest region, referred a reporter to the company’s public relations team.

In an emailed statement, Ryan Fritsch, Webberville Division vice president for Aldi, declined to discuss the new store.

“At this time, we do not have any information to share on a store on (sp) future developments in the Lansing area,” Fritsch said. “As soon as we have information regarding further ALDI expansion in this area, we will reach out.”

Beck said he believes the store will be built sometime this year.

Earlier this year, Aldi announced plans to open “more than 225 new store locations in 2025 as part of the next phase of its five-year growth strategy.”

The company plans to “add to its established footprint in the Northeast and Midwest regions, grow its presence in the West with more stores in Southern California and Arizona, and enter new communities, like Las Vegas,” officials said a Feb. 7 news release. “As ALDI grows its footprint to serve more customers, it also brings its employee-focused culture and industry-leading pay and benefits to more communities.”

The company currently has locations in Delta Township, Lansing and Okemos.
