North Indian Canyon has reopened after being closed for more than a week.
At 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, the Palm Springs Police Department announced North Indian Canyon, between Sunrise Parkway and Palm Springs Station Road had reopened.
It had been closed since March 26.
Major Palm Springs road scheduled to close again
The next steps in the Indian Canyon Drive bridge reconstruction project will see a two-mile stretch of the road closed again for about four days next week.
That will cause traffic detours during a busy time of year in the Coachella Valley. But the road is set to reopen before the Coachella music festival starts.
When is the road closure?
The closure is scheduled to begin at midnight on Monday, April 7, and last through 6 a.m. on Friday, April 11. Both directions of Indian Canyon Drive will be closed between Garnet Avenue, which is just south of Interstate 10, and Sunrise Parkway.
Why is the road closing?
The closure will facilitate next steps in the ongoing project to build a wider bridge where Indian Canyon Drive goes over the railroad tracks. Crews also will make other improvements to the roadway, including the addition of sidewalks and new drainage and utility infrastructure. A more detailed explanation of the project can be found at IndianCanyonProject.com.
