On The Brink

By Mark Maher

Is the anticipation high? Are you excited for tomorrow?  What are you on the brink of? Is a breakthrough coming? When the breakthrough comes, maybe the main focus should be on HOW you got through. For whatever we go through, it’s just a vehicle for God to be used in our life.  Life can be hard, but whatever is going on in your life, it’s really just calling you into a deeper relationship with Christ.

“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his Word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning.” (Psalm 130:5:8)

So close you can feel it. Step forward in faith. “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

The pressure is your preparation. What you do with today’s pressure will determine your tomorrow. You have to learn to handle it. Embrace the process.  It’s in the process that reveals your potential.  Use what God has already gave you and then allow God to fill in what you’re not.  What happens when you FULLY commit to the process? “All in” is different from being “lukewarm.”

Live in anticipation for what Christ will do next.  Expect transformation. Expect breakthrough. Wait in expectation that Christ has something wonderful in store for your life, “infinitely more than you could ask, think or imagine.” (Ephesians 3:20)

“Seize every opportunity that life offers you because when opportunities go, they take a long time to come back.”  Paulo Coelho

What are you on the verge of?  Here are 10 possibilities.

1. Adventure:  Go “live life to the full.” (John 10:10) Experience everything God has for you.  Rejoicing in every single day. (Philippians 4:6) Life is short, go live it and don’t just watch it.  At the end of our lives, no regrets.

2. New Perspective:  “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5) “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) Change your thinking, change your life.  Gain a new way of doing life.  Get Christ involved in every step this time.

3. New Skill:  Romans 12:6 says, “In His grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.” If it’s truly in His will, He will equip you as you go, just walk into the calling He has put in front of you.

4. New Calling:  Where is Christ calling you?  Maybe it’s a Bible study group.  Maybe it’s to attend church.  As of late, He has led me to a “Speak Life” podcast.  I think He is always pulling us into a new dimension, another way to experience His grace.  Wherever He’s calling you into, walk in it.  Let’s find out why He’s calling you there.

5. Relationships:  New people are coming into your life, change agents, encouraging you in your faith. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17) To gain the gift of fellowship. Chase the relationships because this is where the love is found and that’s our faith.

6. Awaken The Soul:  Do what sets your soul ablaze, where your passion abounds and excitement is your fuel.  “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11) Where does your excitement abound?  The place where the fuel will propel you forward.

7. Deeper Faith:  Maybe Christ is calling you into a deeper faith.  To draw into His presence and His Word.  To count on Him. To become consistent.

8. Life of Soul Winning: “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!” (1 Corinthians 9:16) To break into a new phase of life that involves relationships, fellowship for Christ with the mission of changing lives.  I think the endgame for any Christian is the point where you have to preach, you don’t even choose it. It’s just become too much of who you are.

9. Simpler Life:  To shed all the possessions and to gain peace and fellowship.  To gain mental clarity, physical fitness, rest, friendship, where less is more.  To enjoy a good cup of coffee.  To enjoy being in the presence of others.

10. Choose To Live: In Luke 9:24, Jesus elaborates on the paradox of grasping life through loss. We can’t cling to worldly idols at the expense of losing spiritual gain. So no matter what I go through I come away with deeper faith and a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ. “Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)

“There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” (Proverbs 23:18)
