Paul Cassidy, Clay Township Supervisor, explains the serious infrastructure and financial situation facing the residents of the Algonac, Clay Township and Ira Township. Approximately two years ago, the three communities established the South Water Municipal Utility Authority (SWMUA). The taxpayers are now facing a $12-$16 million dollar debt to bring its sewer department up to code to meet required safety standards.
