Michigan State hockey has yet to play an official game during the 2025-26 season, but they have already inched closer to the top spot in the USCHO.com rankings.
The college hockey season officially started last weekend, with some teams playing their first games of the year. The Spartans played an exhibition against Windsor, picking up a 4-0 victory. But despite not starting the season until this upcoming weekend, Michigan State has moved up one spot to No. 2 in the updated USCHO.com rankings released on Monday.

The Spartans were No. 3 in the preseason poll, but moved up one spot past Boston University in this week’s poll. Michigan State is now only behind Western Michigan for the top spot in the national rankings.
Michigan State opens the 2025-26 season on Thursday in a home game against New Hampshire. The Spartans and Wildcats will also play at Munn Ice Arena on Friday to complete the two-game series.
