Smith provides injury update on S Nikai Martinez, CB Ade Willie ahead of UCLA game

Michigan State football could be getting back a pair of key players in their secondary this week against UCLA.

Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith met with the media on Monday to recap this past weekend’s loss at Nebraska and start to preview this week’s upcoming matchup against UCLA. As part of that press conference, Smith provided an injury update on starting safety Nikai Martinez and starting cornerback Ade Willie.

Per a social media post from Stephen Brooks of 247Sports, Smith said both Martinez and Willie are “day to day” ahead of this week’s game against UCLA. Both Martinez and Willie missed this past weekend’s game at Nebraska with injuries.

Martinez has missed three of the Spartans’ five games this year with various injuries, while this past week’s game at Nebraska was the first game Willie was out. Both are key contributors for the Spartans secondary and will certainly help the Spartans this week against a solid passing attack in UCLA.

Kickoff from Spartan Stadium on Saturday is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
