LANSING — A Lansing man has been sentenced to prison in connection with the 2024 shooting death of his best friend in north Lansing.
Treyveon Green, 23, pleaded guilty in August to discharging a firearm from a vehicle, causing death. Two weapons counts were dismissed, and the parties agreed that his sentence be set at 10 years to 15 years in prison, court records indicate.

Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina handed down that sentence on Sept. 24. Green will get 417 days credit for time served.
Aaron Bey-Johnson, 22, was killed when he and Green fired rounds during some type of confrontation in the 3100 block of Turner Street in April 2024, according to statements in court. Green accidentally shot his friend.
Aquillina said the outcome was a compromise between the parties and the victim’s family to account for the unusual circumstances of the case while still sending a message about the dangers of firearms.
“You lost your best friend,” Aquilina told Green on Wednesday. “This should not have happened … The problem with this is that guns are not toys, and this was a preventable accident.”
Stephen Cornish, one of Green’s attorneys, described the killing in court as “a sad case, a tragic case” and said the parties worked hard to resolve it fairly.
Assistant Ingham County Prosecutor Sarah Pulda called it “a sad story all around, a friend who killed, from all accounts, his best friend.” The community, she said, also is hurting as a result of the tragedy.
