There is no denying, avoiding or maneuvering around the most obvious question surrounding Michigan State football, Jonathan Smith’s job security. The head man of MSU football is not even avoiding the questions himself.
As the Spartans are in the midst of one of the worst season the program has had since joining the Big Ten in 1949, the fan base and those around the program have questioned Smith’s ability to lead the program.
With one game left, these decisions are going to happen quickly, and the future of Michigan State football will be in the hands of J Batt.
At his last weekly press conference of the season, Smith fielded questions about his job security and answered what seemed to be honestly.
When asked about if anything regarding his future has been firmly communicated to him by MSU, he said no. But when talking about his job as a whole, he did not say that he believes he is staying, instead, he gave confidence to the coaches and players in the building.
“I think in this landscape of college football, what it is, that’s always a solid question,” Smith said of his future. “I’m still really confident in the people that are in the building right now.”
As feast week commences, and the Spartans finish their 2025 season against Maryland on Saturday inside of Ford Field, the future of Smith and MSU will come to a head.
