Washington — President Donald Trump will deliver the first formal State of the Union address of his second term on Tuesday night at 9 p.m. EST.
Major networks will carry it live, including ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS and Fox News. Some, including C-SPAN, will have free livestreams available on YouTube as well.
Trump skipped a traditional State of the Union in 2025, opting instead for a joint address to Congress in March. Tuesday’s speech will be his first under the official designation.
The GOP leader will take the podium days after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down sweeping tariffs he imposed on most U.S. trading partners. The 6-3 ruling found Trump exceeded his authority under a 1977 emergency powers law.
The president promptly announced replacement tariffs under separate legal authority and called the majority justices, including two he nominated during his first term, “a disgrace to our nation.”
Trump’s speech Tuesday night also follows weeks of fallout from the Justice Department’s release of documents tied to its investigation into the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and comes after a partial government shutdown that began Feb. 14 over Department of Homeland Security funding.
Senate Democrats blocked a spending bill following the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Minneapolis. Migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border have hit a 55-year low, according to a Pew analysis of federal data, but immigration enforcement tactics by the Trump administration remain deeply controversial.
Abroad, Trump has suggested the United States could strike Iran in the coming weeks if the Middle Eastern nation does not back down from demands in negotiations over its nuclear program. On Thursday, Trump warned Iran that “really bad things” will happen in 10 to 15 days if Iran doesn’t respond to American demands.
Some Democrats plan to boycott Trump’s speech and hold an alternative event. Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger will deliver her party’s official response.
