Detroit Red Wings rally falls short in 4-3 loss to New Jersey Devils

The Detroit Red Wings put on a solid road performance to give themselves a chance.

Their outing on Monday, Nov. 24, against the New Jersey Devils saw the Wings give Jacob Markstrom a challlenging night at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Wings captain Dylan Larkin buried Lucas Raymond’s rebound to put the Wings within a goal midway through the third period, though they ended up losing, 4-3.

Patrick Kane was denied on a great scoring chance in the waning minutes, on what was the Wings’ 10th shot of the third period. The Wings called a timeout with 11.2 seconds to play and Markstrom turned away Raymond’s shot to finish with 33 saves. Cam Talbot made 15 saves for Detroit.

The Wings entered the game coming off a redemptive performanvce at home in which they rallied to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday. ‘

The Wings fell behind when Timo Meier scored just past the halfway point of the first period, but Alex DeBrincat – who scored the winning goal against the Blue Jackets, recorded his 11th goal of the season to make it 1-1.

Nico Hischier and Cody Glass scored on Talbot to make it 3-1 after one period.

James van Riemsdyk scored on a power play on a backhand early in the second period to pull the Wings (13-9-1) within a goal, but Connor Brown restored the two-goal lead for the Devils (14-7-1) midway through the period.

Next up, the Wings return home for a two-game homestand bracketing the Thanksgiving holiday, beginning with a visit from the Nashville Predators at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday (7 p.m., FanDuel Sports Network Detroit Extra). The Wings, who fell into second place in the Atlantic Division on Monday after Tampa Bay beat the Philadelphia Flyers, then host the Lightning on Friday afternoon before hitting the road for a Saturday night game against the Bruins in Boston.
