Kyle Whittingham brought some changes to his newly-inherited Michigan football team already, and among them is the ‘leadership council.’
The leadership council features 11 player-voted members, along with two spring captains. Redshirt sophomore running back Jordan Marshall is one of the spring captains, while sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood is another.
Appearing on Champ Media (the media arm of Champions Circle), Underwood shared his reaction to being named a spring captain in just his second year with the team and in college football.
“It’s a blessing overall,” Underwood said. These past few weeks I’ve just been working hard, leading the guys, you know. It wouldn’t be any different with them being leaders as well, so I just really appreciate them for everything they put me through.”
Underwood already was a focal point of the Wolverine offense last season, but with Jason Beck leading that side of the ball as the coordinator, he should be even more so. In his previous offenses, Beck heavily featured quarterback Devon Dampier both as a passer as well as a runner.
It will be interesting to see how the team galvanizes and orients behind the two spring captains, especially as the offense looks to lead the team into 2026.
