NORTHERN MICHIGAN — There’s no need to wait until the weekend to plan some fun, there are plenty of activities happening during the week in Northern Michigan.
Here’s what we recommend:

Learn about red-tailed hawks
The Petoskey Regional Audubon Society will host a program on red-tailed hawks at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13.
The program, featuring presenter Nick Alito, will focus on the Red-tailed Hawk Project. Alito will also speak about what has been learned from tracking migrant red-tailed hawks in Michigan over the past four years.
The program is free and open to the public. It will take place in the conference room at Northern Lights Recreation, 8865 Harbor-Petoskey Road in Harbor Springs.
Ice storm impact on forestry
If you’d like to learn more about how March’s devastating ice storms impacted local forests, there will be a free presentation on Wednesday, May 14 in Pellston.
The “Forestry Talk: Ice storm damage in working forests” program will be hosted by Bryce and Susan Metcalfe, co-owners of Metcalfe Forestry Co. and Burns Timber Tax Service.
The talk will focus on working forests of 20 acres or more, touching on topics like the storm’s effects on forest health and value, options for clean-up, federal resources and more.
While there is no cost to attend, donations are welcome. The program will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Pellston High School auditorium, 172 Park St.
