May gets prestigious award
Marine City Commissioner Patricia May recently received a Stars of Life award from the American Ambulance Association for her work with Tri-Hospital EMS. The award honors professionals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in service to their communities. Five Tri-Hospital EMS workers were recognized at a special ceremony in Lansing highlighting their work in emergency care. The “Stars of Life” awards honored 67 EMS members statewide, including seven from southeastern Michigan. Honorees from Tri-Hospital EMS included Kevin Shurkey of Port Huron, named Practitioner of the Year, Jason Heilig of Port Huron, Elizabeth Cremona of Cottrellville, Nicole Jackson of Algonac, and Patricia May of Marine City.

Tri-Hospital EMS was established in 1983 to provide ambulance service to portions of St. Clair and Sanilac Counties. Forty years later, Tri-Hospital EMS is the largest ambulance provider in St. Clair County, providing service to over 160,000 individuals in a 650 square miles radius, and responding to more than 23,000 runs annually.
City Manager Michael Reaves offered congratulations to May during his comments to the commission. He noted how prestigious and impressive the award was too.
“She should be commended for that, that’s pretty special I haven’t heard of too many people receiving that award so it’s impressive so I wanted to say thank-you for your service,” Reaves added.
“Trish congratulation on your award,” Commission Jacob Bryson, stated during his commissioner privilege portion of the meeting.
Commissioner Sean O’Brien also offered a very big congratulations to May for a well-earned award and his kudos were echoed by Commissioner Rita Roehrig who also offered congratulations.
Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Hendrick said the award was wonderful and said she also wanted to offer her congratulations to May.

Townhall on 300 Broadway is set
The City of Marine City will host a townhall on Tuesday, Oct. 21 a6 6:30 p.m. in the city’s meeting chambers at city hall. The chambers are located at 260 South Parker Street. The gathering will be to discuss the status of old city hall, located at 300 Broadway. The event is a public meeting and will be held in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.
VanWormer gets special proclamation
A proclamation honoring Robert “Bob” VanWormer was read into the record and presented by Mayor Jennifer Vandenbossche at the Sept. 18 meeting of the Marine City Commission.
The mayor read that WHEREAS, Robert C. “Bob” VanWormer was a proud son of Marine City, Michigan, where he grew up instilled with the values of service, leadership, and family; and
WHEREAS, as a young man, Bob bravely answered the call of duty and served his country with honor for the U.S. Army during the Korean War, demonstrating courage and sacrifice in defense of freedom; and
WHEREAS, upon returning home, Bob joined the great generation of builders who shaped our communities, becoming a successful entrepreneur and respected business owner near downtown Marine City, before establishing a distinguished career that later brought him and his family to Battle Creek; and WHEREAS, from 1969 to 1971, Bob served as Mayor of Marine City, faithfully leading the community that raised him and ensuring its growth and vitality; and
WHEREAS, after retiring with his beloved wife in Florida, Bob never forgot his Marine City roots, always carrying with him a deep and enduring connection to the town and its people, with the VanWormer family continuing to maintain strong ties here to this day; and
WHEREAS, Bob was a man known for his warmth, his kindness, and his gift of treating everyone he met like family, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jennifer Vandenbossche, Mayor of the City of Marine City, do hereby recognize and honor the life and legacy of Robert C. “Bob” VanWormer for his service to his country, his leadership to his community, and his enduring example of integrity, compassion, and dedication to family. His memory will forever remain part of Marine City’s proud history. IN
