Bryce Rainer’s home-run streak came to an end Friday, Aug. 21.
Perhaps the Tigers prospect just started a new one.
Rainer, the Tigers’ No. 3-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, homered again Saturday, Aug. 22, for the High-A West Michigan Whitecaps. Rainer teed off on a breaking ball in the top of the sixth inning and hit a hit long home run to right field in South Bend, Indiana. It was his 17th homer of the season, his 16th for the Whitecaps.
It was a three-run home run.
Starting with last Friday’s game, Rainer hit a home run in five consecutive games, setting a franchise record for the High-A Whitecaps. The streak was broken this Friday, when he went 1-for 2 with a strikeout and three walks.
In 85 games with the Whitecaps this season, Rainer is batting .273 with an .872 ERA and 63 RBIs. He could be in line for a promotion to Double-A Erie before the season is over. If there is one concern, it’s all the strikeouts. Rainer has struck out 131 times for West Michigan this season, including three times in Saturday’s game.
Rainer is a shortstop (he DH’d Saturday) who was drafted in the first round, 11th overall, in 2024.
