The Tigers’ first-round draft pick from 2026 is getting set to start his pro career.
Cameron Flukey, a right-hander selected by the Tigers with the 22nd overall pick in the July draft, has been added to the roster for High-A Lakeland, according to the team’s updated roster Tuesday. He is expected to make his professional debut at some point this week.
Flukey pitched three years at Coastal Carolina, mostly as a starter.
He missed two months of the 2026 college season with a rib injury before returning late and leading Coastal Carolina to the College World Series. In seven appearances in 2026, he had a 4.13 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 24 innings.
Flukey, 21, was the No. 15-ranked draft prospect by MLB.com, before the Tigers took him at No. 22. He signed for a $3.8-million bonus, just below the slot value of $4.22 million, allowing the Tigers key savings in their draft pool that they used to sign high-school first baseman Will Adams to a $1-million bonus after taking him in the 11th round.
Flukey, 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, has a fastball that tops out in the high 90s as well as a slider and curveball, according to MLB.com scouting reports. His change-up needs work, according to the scouting report.
