Tigers' Max Clark has RBI double, single, walk in debut

Sacramento, Calif. — In his first big-league at-bat, Tigers’ top prospect Max Clark worked a six-pitch walk in the second inning Friday night.

Wearing magenta-colored batting gloves and shin protector, with his trademark chains tucked into his jersey, he stepped in against lefty Jeffrey Springs and took three straight pitches out of the strike zone.

Springs stayed with fastballs, getting back into the count 3-2. But Clark didn’t budge on a fourth straight fastball that was well outside the strike zone.

The walk came after Spencer Torkelson singled. But the inning ended abruptly when Javier Báez bounced into a 5-4-3 double-play.

In his second at-bat, Clark singled into left field in the fourth inning. He grounded out to second base in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, he had an RBI double to left field.
