Michigan State hockey got back on the right side of the scoreboard in a big way on Wednesday.
Michigan State scored three goals in the first eight minutes of the game to build up a lead they’d never surrender in a convincing 5-2 win over Colgate on Wednesday night. This was the first of two non-conference games being played between the Spartans and Raiders from Munn Ice Arena this week.
Owen West, Ryker Lee and Eric Nilson got the Spartans going with goals each early into the game. Colgate would respond with a goal of their own by Jack Brandt before the end of the first period, but Michigan State went into the first break with a 3-1 advantage.
Michigan State would add to that lead in the second period with a goal from Tiernan Shoudy to make it 4-1 at the end of the second period.
Charlie Stramel would put the game on ice with a goal in the third period to push the Spartans’ lead to 5-1. Colgate would get one final goal by Simone Dadiè before the final buzzer, with the Spartans winning in the end by the final score of 5-2.
With the win on Wednesday, Michigan State improves to 10-3-0 overall on the year. The victory over Colgate also snapped a two-game losing streak for the Spartans.
Michigan State and Colgate will wrap-up their two-game series on Friday afternoon. Faceoff from Munn Ice Arena in East Lansing, Mich. is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET, and the game will be available to stream on Big Ten Plus.
